The Hidden Cost of Traveling
It’s summer, and for most Americans that means that it is time to take off of work, pack up the kids, and go on a vacation. At C&S Insurance, we understand that vacations are not always as relaxing as you hope they could be, especially during the planning stages. However, even though the majority of travelers worry about losing their luggage or passport, there are many other issues to be had when traveling.
On a vacation, it is possible for you or one of your family members to get injured or terribly ill during your trip. This is why it is important to review your health insurance policy before you leave.
Most health insurance plans do not extend beyond our U.S. borders, and even if you aren’t traveling outside the U.S., you could find the out-of-network costs very expensive. Even relatively mild injuries or illnesses can costs thousands of dollars.
Therefore, if you are traveling outside the U.S., you can pretty much guarantee you won’t have medical coverage. This is why we recommend getting travel health insurance, especially if you’re traveling to a remote or exotic location and pick up an unfriendly parasite or virus.
Don’t assume your credit card’s travel protection covers medical needs either. We haven’t (yet) found a credit card that covers medical care – although they’ll raise your limit if you need to charge your care to your card.
